re.CINE
Privacy Policy
Welcome to re.CINE (the “App”). The App is a media player for iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS. We value your privacy and strive to provide features through on-device processing, minimal permissions, and network access initiated by you.
This Policy explains what information the App processes, why it is processed, where it is stored, and how you can manage it. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the relevant features or uninstall the App.
1. Information We Process
1.1 Local Media and File Information
When you browse, import, or play local files, folders selected through the Files app, external subtitles, or downloaded content, the App may process:
- Media metadata such as file names, file paths, file sizes, formats, durations, audio and video tracks, and subtitles;
- Media files, folders, and subtitle content that you actively select;
- Access authorization information generated by the operating system to maintain access to folders you select;
- Thumbnails, subtitle copies, temporary files, and caches required for playback.
This information is used for file browsing, media analysis, playback, subtitle display, thumbnail generation, and download management, and is stored on your device by default. Unless you actively connect to a remote media source, the App does not transmit local media content over the network or upload it to the developer.
1.2 Playback History and App Settings
To provide resume playback, recently played items, playlists, and preferences, the App stores the following on your device:
- Playback history, playback progress, and recently played items;
- Playlists and the media references they contain;
- Download tasks and their status;
- Playback, subtitle, interface, and other App settings;
- Non-sensitive configurations for added media sources, such as display names, server addresses, ports, and remote paths.
This data is used to restore your usage state. It is not used for advertising profiles or cross-app tracking.
1.3 Remote Media Sources and Account Information
When you actively add an SMB or WebDAV remote media source, the App may process:
- Server addresses, ports, shared directories, user names, and connection settings you provide;
- Passwords or other authentication credentials;
- Remote file paths and media content that you browse, play, download, or import.
Sensitive credentials, such as passwords, are stored in the system Keychain. Other connection settings are stored in the App sandbox. This information is used only to connect to servers you specify, complete authentication, and perform browsing, playback, download, or subtitle import actions initiated by you.
1.4 Diagnostic Information
The App generates local system logs to help troubleshoot playback, decoding, network connection, and file access issues. Logs may contain error information and excerpts of media file names, remote paths, server information, or user names.
The App does not automatically upload these logs to the developer. A recipient receives only the content you actively submit through system diagnostics, email, or another method. Before submitting, please review and remove any information you do not wish to share.
2. Use of System Permissions
The App may request or use the following system capabilities:
- File access: Used only to access files or folders you select through the system file picker and content within the App’s own sandbox.
- Local network: Used to connect to LAN media servers, such as SMB or WebDAV servers, that you actively add. The App does not use this permission to scan devices or services unrelated to media playback.
- Background audio: Used to continue playback after the device is locked or you switch to another app when audio-only media is playing. Media containing a video track pauses when the App enters the background.
You can manage these permissions in the system Settings app. Disabling a permission may make the corresponding features unavailable.
3. Local HTTP Proxy
To allow the system player and decoding components to read remote media that requires segmented access, the App may start a temporary HTTP proxy on your device. This proxy:
- Binds only to the local loopback address
127.0.0.1; - Uses a temporary port assigned by the operating system;
- Is accessible only to playback components on the same device;
- Does not listen on Wi-Fi, cellular, Ethernet, or peer-to-peer network interfaces and does not provide services to the local network or the internet.
Data handled by the proxy is used only to complete the current media read and playback operation.
4. Network Transmission and Remote Services
The App’s core playback, media management, and history features operate locally on your device. The App currently does not use developer-operated accounts, advertising, analytics, or media relay servers.
When you actively connect to an SMB, WebDAV, or similar remote media source, the App communicates directly with the server you specify. The server operator may process your IP address, account information, request logs, and media data under its own policies. The location and security of the server are controlled by you or the relevant service provider. For WebDAV services, we recommend using HTTPS whenever possible.
The App does not provide media content accessed through a remote source to the developer, and it does not use data returned by remote servers for advertising, sale, or tracking across services.
5. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information, nor do we share it with advertising platforms or data brokers. Information may be transmitted or disclosed only in the following circumstances:
- To complete an action you initiate, necessary data is sent to an SMB or WebDAV server you specify;
- You actively submit feedback, screenshots, logs, or files to the developer or another recipient;
- Disclosure is required by applicable law, legal process, or a lawful request from a competent authority, and the developer actually possesses the relevant information.
Because the App does not operate user accounts or media servers, the developer generally does not possess media, playback history, or connection credentials stored on your device and cannot remotely access or delete that data.
6. Retention, Security, and Deletion
- Local settings, playback history, playlists, and media source configurations are retained until you delete them using the relevant feature (where a deletion option is available), clear the App’s data, or uninstall the App;
- Downloaded files are retained until you delete them. Caches and temporary files can be removed through the App’s cache-clearing feature or system storage management;
- Sensitive credentials for remote media sources are stored in the system Keychain. When removing a media source, you should also delete its credentials. The operating system determines whether Keychain items are ultimately retained after uninstalling the App. To ensure deletion, remove the relevant media source within the App before uninstalling it;
- The App sandbox is protected by operating system security mechanisms, but no storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Please protect your device passcode and remote service accounts, and prioritize trusted networks and encrypted connections.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You may:
- Decline local network or file access permissions and continue using features that do not depend on those permissions;
- Change permissions in the system Settings app;
- Remove media sources, playlists, downloads, and caches within the App. Other records stored only in the App sandbox can be deleted by uninstalling the App;
- Uninstall the App to delete data stored in the App sandbox.
If you have actively submitted feedback or diagnostic materials to the developer, you may request access, correction, or deletion through the channel described in “Contact Us.” The developer cannot remotely access or manage data that is stored only on your device.
8. Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience. It is not designed to collect children’s personal information and does not provide advertising or behavioral tracking. Children should use the App and add remote media sources under the guidance of a parent or guardian. If a parent or guardian believes that a child has actively submitted personal information to the developer, please contact us so that we can address the matter.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in features, technology, law, or regulatory requirements. The updated Policy will be published on an App page or in documentation provided with the App and will identify the date of the latest update. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide a more prominent notice where appropriate.
10. Contact Us
If you have questions, comments, or requests regarding this Policy or privacy protection, please contact us through “App Support” or the developer contact details listed on the re.CINE product page in the App Store.
To protect your privacy, please do not include remote server passwords or complete media files in your initial message.
